Lilac Tree Not In Bloom

Here are some tips to make sure yours bloom.
Lilac tree not in bloom. While lilac bushes may still grow in shady locations they are less likely to bloom if they are not exposed to sunlight. Root restriction another reason that a lilac bush does not bloom is due to having a restricted root system. Lilac bushes prefer full sun. Too much nitrogen can be a problem.
Restricted root systems can be caused by overly wet ground container grown plants in too small a container and inadvertent root pruning. This results in the loss of blooms for that year. It will live but not bloom. Also you might need to thin the bush to make sure sunlight is getting through the foliage.
Typically a lilac bush with a restricted root system will also grow poorly. Avoid using fertilizers high in nitrogen. A minimum of six hours of sun is needed each day. Lilacs are one of many flowering shrubs which thrive best in full sunlight.
You can move it or prune back the trees shading it. Be aware that moving it may cause it to not bloom for another entire year so be patient. Often lilacs are planted in the lawn and fertilizers used to green up lawns are high in nitrogen. Usually insufficient sunlight is the problem.
There is not much that you can do to prevent this. Just accept the loss and appreciate next year s blossoms twice as much. For the lilac this causes beautiful green foliage but little bloom. Sunlight the plant will not bloom.
The common lilac syringa vulgaris is a very cold hardy plant but if a hard frost or a freeze comes along just as the flower buds are about to open they can be damaged.
